HDE would like to solicit your help to make 'hella' the next giant-number prefix, specifically, it would be '1' followed by 27 zeroes, or 1027. As in, that's a hellabyte hard drive. Of course, we're a few years away from hard drives that big. To put it in perspective, here's how it would look:

  • 1 bit
  • (1 nibble = 4 bits. Really)
  • 1 byte = 8 bits
  • 1 kilobyte (kb)
  • 1 megabyte (mb)
  • 1 gigabyte (gb)
  • 1 terabyte
  • 1 petabyte
  • 1 exabyte
  • 1 zettabyte
  • 1 yottabyte
  • Proposed: 1 hellabyte

The Wikipedia article on Yottabytes says "the combined space of all the computer hard drives in the world does not amount to even one zettabyte", so we've got some time here to jump on hellabytes. You see, there's a petition right now to designate 'hella' as the official prefix for what comes after yotta. Who's being petitioned? Only The International System of Units. Didn't know there was such a thing before today.
Around here we frequently measure numbers this large.
